Decarbonisation

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Jackwolf Group was appointed to deliver a decarbonisation project at Ripley Academy, a large secondary school.

The project aimed to replace the existing boilers with a more energy-efficient hybrid gas boiler and electric air source heat pump system. This initiative aligns with Jackwolf Group's commitment to sustainability and aligns with the CIF Education upgrade scheme, promoting energy efficiency in educational facilities. The project window was strategically chosen to minimise disruption to students - during the summer school holidays.

CONTRACT VALUE: £340K

JACKWOLF'S SOLUTION

The project at Ripley Academy encompassed a comprehensive replacement of the school's heating system.

This included:

  • Removal and disposal of the existing boilers.
  • Installation of two new high-efficiency gas-fired boilers (120kw each).
  • Upgraded pipework throughout the heating system.
  • Building Management System (BMS) controls integration.
  • Installation of new pumps with low energy inverter drives.
  • Electrical works to support the new system.

A key element of the decarbonisation strategy involved the installation of a new air source heat pump. This technology utilises renewable energy sources to provide heating, reducing the school's reliance on traditional gas boilers. To ensure a seamless project execution during the limited summer shutdown period, Jackwolf Group employed proactive measures. All equipment was pre-ordered during the lead-in time, mitigating potential delays due to busy summer delivery schedules.
