PROJECT OVERVIEW

Jackwolf Group played a pivotal role in the decarbonisation project at Sir William Ramsey School, located in High Wycombe.

This project leveraged grant funding from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) to implement energy-efficient and heat decarbonisation measures within the school building. The PSDS program supports public sector entities, including schools, hospitals, and government buildings, in achieving their sustainability goals.

CONTRACT VALUE: £1.4M

JACKWOLF'S SOLUTION

We secured the PSDS grant for the project by strategically budgeting for a consultant during the initial funding application stage.

Following grant approval, Jackwolf Group solidified its costs and presented the most competitive offer for project execution. Understanding the importance of minimising disruption to the school schedule, Jackwolf Group implemented a phased approach, strategically dividing the project into three distinct periods:

  • Phase 1: Initial equipment replacements were completed during the summer school holiday period.
  • Phase 2: Focused on the installation of the external Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) system.
  • Phase 3: Encompassed the final system changeover, marking the project's completion.

The core elements of the decarbonisation solution included:

  • Installation of two powerful 368kw Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP).
  • Integration of a new Water Source Heat Pump (WSHP) system.
  • Construction of a secure external base to house the new equipment, including fencing, ducting, and service trenches leading to the main plant room and a new feeder pillar.
  • Installation of a new hot water calorifier, buffer vessel, and filtration equipment. This equipment was complemented by energy-efficient pumps, a control panel, and electrical wiring.
  • Replacement of existing plant room equipment, encompassing pipework, pumps, and controls. The project also included the installation of a new pressurisation unit and expansion vessel, or the utilisation of existing feed and expansion tanks.
  • Upgrading the school's incoming electricity supply to accommodate the increased power demands of the new system.
